The Griswold/Wheeler Wolverines were on absolute fire on Friday night, and it may not be only because they know they have a solid defense, backfield, and offensive line this year.  Friday night marked the return of team leader Andrew Koziol who missed 6 games due to a broken collarbone that he suffered at the hands of the Bacon Academy defense during the 2nd game of the year for the Wolverines.  A game which the Wolverines lost.

For those weeks that Koziol was on the shelf, Junior Jaiden Curtin-Quinn steered the ship going 4-1 including shutouts against East Catholic and Windham.  Koziol gave Curtin-Quinn high marks for his leadership while he was injured when Andrew appeared on the SNSN Morning Show this past Friday morning.

Koziol had an inspiring breakout game on Friday, his first game back from injury, passing for 244 yards and 4 touchdowns in their 55-12 win over CREC.

The Wolverines went into Friday’s game ranked #14 in Class S.  After the win over CREC, they moved up to #11 which will help their playoff contention.  What also helped was NFA beating Bacon Academy on Saturday, 34-31 in OT.  Griswold is in a must win situation against Plainfield on Thanksgiving Day.  Although Plainfield’s schedule may not have been as challenging as the Wolverines this campaign, they are still 8-1 and one of those wins….. Bacon Academy.  The same Bacon Academy that hung with NFA this weekend, you know the NFA that knocked Killingly off in OT the previous week.  You know, the Bacon Academy that also put Koziol on the shelf for 6 weeks.

Wolverines have something to prove to themselves on Thanksgiving Day.  Andrew Koziol has something to prove on Thanksgiving Day.  Plainfield has something to prove on Thanksgiving Day that they are as good as their record indicates and not because of lessor teams.  Plainfield Panther standout Lucien Dube has something to prove Thanksgiving Day.  Like every Thanksgiving Day, Griswold and Plainfield will leave it all on the field.  At least one of these teams is heading for the post season.  Koziol’s had his off season in the middle of his senior year.  I wouldn’t bet against him now.
