Witness Assists Plainfield Police In Locating Sterling Man After Leaving Accident With Motorcycle Victim

On September 13, 2020 at approximately 4:57 P.M. members of the Plainfield Police Department, Plainfield Fire Department and American Legion Ambulance responded to a two vehicle crash in the area of Hopkins Hill on Norwich Road Plainfield, CT. A 911 caller reported a car versus motorcycle crash on Norwich Road prior to the Plainfield Police Department. Caller reported the motorcycle was down in the roadway and a second caller stated the other vehicle involved left the scene of the crash and was described as a red Dodge Dakota with heavy front end damage headed southbound.

Upon arrival on scene the operator of the motorcycle was identified as 57 year old David Tatro of Central Village, CT. Through investigation on scene it was determined Tatro was operating his 2004 Harley Davidson northbound on Norwich Road and the evading vehicle was traveling southbound on Norwich Road. A collision subsequently occurred near the center line in the roadway.

Tatro was transported to Plainfield Backus Emergency Department with suspected serious injuries.

A witness to the crash notified police that a vehicle matching the description of the evading vehicle was pulled over on the side of the road in the area of School Street Central Village, CT with a flat tire.

Officers then went to that area and confirmed the vehicle was the one involved in the crash and identified the operator of the red 2002 Dodge Dakota Sport as 20 year old Charles Corson the 4th of Sterling, CT. Corson the 4th had 19 year old Javon Ortiz of Plainfield, CT as a passenger in the vehicle.

Corson was placed under arrest at approximately 6:52 P.M. and was charged with Evading Responsibility Serious Physical Injury, Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, and Reckless Driving. Corson was released on a $50,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear at the Danielson Superior Court on November 2, 2020.

This crash remains under investigation.
