Wauregan Resident Bit By Rabid Stray Cat, Cat Euthanized

rabiesOn Tuesday July 5th, at approximately 8:30 AM, Karen Stone from Plainfield Animal Control responded to a call of a badly injured cat which had bit a resident in the North Chestnut St area of Wauregan.  The cat was captured and euthanized then sent to the state lab for rabies testing.  Yesterday, the lab confirmed that the cat tested positive for the rabies virus.  The resident suffered minor injuries and is receiving rabies post exposure immunization.

Animal Control would like to advise all residents to avoid all contact with stray animals and wildlife and to NOT leave food outside for your pets.  They also want to stress that you make sure that your pets are up to date on their rabies vaccines.  If you see an animal acting strangely, please contact Animal Control at 860-564-8547 or Plainfield Police at 860-564-0804
