On August 19, 2016 at around noon time, Troop D Troopers responded to a motor vehicle accident on the I-395 southbound exit 89 off ramp. Trooper Bimonte determined that the operator, Sarah Chattelle (DOB 10/06/1989) of Voluntown, was under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics and subsequently placed her under arrest for DWI. Trooper First Class Monahan and his canine partner Dodie conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle which resulted in Dodi alerting to the trunk area of the car. K9 Dodi was deployed inside the trunk and alerted to a large white bag. Troopers located numerous bags of heroin inside the bag. TFC Monahan arrested Chattelle under a separate case number and charged her with possession of heroin. Chattelle was transported back to Troop D where she was processed and later released on bond and scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on 09/01/2016.
