Utility Pole Fire Causes Borough Power Issue, Multiple Companies Respond

On Wednesday October 14, 2020, at approximately 3:45 PM, the Jewett City Fire Department, Jewett City Department of Public Utilities, as well as Eversource responded to the area of Slater Ave and Main St in Jewett City for a utility pole that had caught on fire.  As a result of the fire, Slater Ave was closed up to Wedgewood Ave.  Businesses such as Eastern Ct Savings Bank had to close as well.  Most of the borough also lost power as far as the end of North Main St.  Areas such as Ashland St and Pleasant View were not affected.

Power did come back on within an hour after Eversource arrived to fix the problem.  Eversource owns most of the utility poles in Jewett City
