UPDATE*** Autopsy Being Performed on Preston Homicide Victim to Determine Cause and Manner of Death

At approximately 1:30 AM on 10/26/19, Troop E Montville received a 911 call from a motorist that thought that he had heard gunshots in the area of route 2A and Route 12 in Preston. While Troopers were responding, Ledyard PD advised they were escorting a vehicle to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London for the report of a gunshot victim.
The victim later died at the hospital as a result of the injuries sustained. Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Squad has responded and are actively investigating the shooting. Detectives have developed a person of interest in the case.
The autopsy was held on Sunday, 10/27 for positive identification. The deceased in the Preston shooting is 35 year old Robert Thompson of Preston. Nothing else has been released at this time.
