Trooper Uses Taser on Car Thief Suspect

On 01/14/19 at approximately 5 pm, a Troop D Trooper was dispatched to Tower Hill Road in Chaplin for the report of suspicious person. As the Trooper was responding, the victim reported to Troop D dispatch that as he was driving on Tower Hill Road when a suspicious male (later identified as 36 year old Darryl Morin of Chappell Road, Chaplin, flagged him down. When the victim stopped to check on Morin, he told the victim that he had warrants and asked to be driven to Troop D. Morin then stole the car from the victim and drove off with it. The responding Trooper spotted the stolen car as he approached the area and conducted a felony stop on Morin. During the felony stop, Morin became combative with the Trooper and reached into his pocket for something. Morin was subdued with a Taser and handcuffed. The Trooper then found and seized a knife in the pocket Morin was reaching for. Morin was transported to Windham hospital as a precautionary measure to be medically evaluated due to the Taser deployment; he was evaluated at Windham hospital and discharged. After being discharged from Windham Hospital, the Trooper transported Morin to Troop D for processing where he was charged with Interfering/Resisting with Police and Larceny in the Second Degree. Morin was held on a $25,000 cash/surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Danielson Superior Court on 01/15/19. The vehicle was safely returned to the victim.
