Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Conservation Police responded to Killingly Pond shortly after 12 noon on Thursday for the report of a missing swimmer. Due to the remote location of the pond, the search and rescue attempts are far more challenging. Before 2:15 p.m., State Police from Troop D confirmed that the missing swimmer was located and pulled from the water. The swimmer, a 28 year old male, was transported to Day Kimball hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2:30 p.m. The identification of the swimmer has not been released, pending notification of his family. Reports say the swimmer was accompanied by a group of people at the pond swimming when he went under water. The investigation is continuing.
