On Sunday, May 22, 2022 at approximately 2:46 PM, 69 year old John Palmer of Canterbury was driving his 2009 Honda CR-V on Route 12 (northbound) in Griswold. As Palmer was approaching Lily Pond Road, and negotiating the curve, the CR-V ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a mailbox and drove over the metal beam guard rail diagonally forward, and vaulted down the embankment where the vehicle ended up on its roof.
Palmer was not injured in the accident but a passenger in the vehicle, 59 year old Ginger Palmer sustained minor injuries.
Both were transported to Backus Emergency Care in Plainfield. The Honda CR-V was towed from the scene.
Palmer was issued a verbal warning for Failure to maintain lane.
