Suspect Arrested for Griswold Gas Station Robbery


On 02/14/2022 at 04:52 in the morning, an unknown male entered the Petro Max gas station, located at 136 Preston Road in Griswold, CT and committed an armed robbery. This unknown male had his face covered with a black mask and displayed a black handgun. This male demanded money from the clerk. This male obtained cash from the clerk, and he then fled the area a gold sedan with no plates.

After an extensive investigation conducted by the Troop E Eastern District Major Crime Squad, along with assistance from the Statewide Narcotics Task Force and Bureau of Special Investigations, the male suspect was identified as 30 year old Michael Riegel.

On 4/5/2022 at 9:30 AM, Riegel was arrested by warrant for the charges of Robbery in the First Degree and Larceny in the Second Degree. Riegel was arrested at Norwich Superior Court, as he was transported there from the Bridgeport Correctional Center where he is facing unrelated additional charges. A court set bond of $150,000.00 was placed on Riegel for the robbery and larceny charges, and he was presented in court for these charges on this same day.
