STATE POLICE WARN AGAINST PHONE SCAM – CALLERS SAY THEY ARE THE IRS

numerous calls from citizens who had been called by the IRS requesting their personal information.
This is a scam. Do not give information over the phone.
*The IRS will not call you without first mailing an official notice
* They do not demand you pay without giving you the opportunity to appeal.
*They do not require you to use a specific payment method such as prepaid debit cards.
*They do not ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
*They do not threaten to bring in local/state police to arrest for not paying.
If you have any other questions/concerns contact your local police department.
ALSO, please be aware that online shopping brings out criminals who look for packages left on doorsteps.
When ordering online, if you can provide special delivery instructions, ask to have packages left around the rear of your residence.
Or have packages delivered to a friend/family/neighbor’s house who you know will be home to accept the package. be home to accept the package.
Contact neighbors if you see something suspicious at their house.
Call police if you see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary. Be alert!
