State Police: Keep Right Except To Pass

Many Connecticut State Police Social Media pages are urging drivers to keep right except to pass.   The official State Police facebook page states:

“Any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic shall be driven in the right-hand lane, or as close as practicable to the right-hand lane or right-hand curb or edge. On highways with two lanes, vehicles are required to drive upon the right most lane except when overtaking or passing or preparing for a left turn.”

“Not only can failing to drive right result in an infraction, it causes unnecessary congestion, jams, and motor vehicle crashes. Do your part to not congest highways. This not only applies to limited access highways such as I-395, I-95, or Route 2, but also any roadway with two lanes such as Route 85 and Route 32.”

One reason that you should merge into the passing lane for is when Police/Road Workers are on the side of road in the breakdown lane to give them plenty of space to remain safe.
