On 09/30/2019 at approximately 6:41 pm, members of the Troop D – Quality of Life Task Force spotted a vehicle in the area of I-395 near exit 87 in Plainfield and recognized the driver as Charlie Clavell of Brooklyn, CT. QLTF Troopers recognized Clavell from previous police related contacts and knew that his Connecticut driver’s license was suspended. Troopers stopped the car and placed Clavell under arrest for operating with a suspended license. While interviewing Clavell, Troopers became suspicious that he may be in possession of narcotics. K9 Ambrie, a female black Labrador trained in narcotic detection, was used to sniff Clavell and gave a very strong alert to his waistband area. Clavell later admitted to having “crack cocaine” hidden in his pants. Numerous clear plastic knotted bags of “crack cocaine” packaged for sale were seized by Troopers. Clavell was placed under arrest without incident and transported back to Troop D where he was processed and charged with Possession of Narcotics, Possession of Narcotics With intent to sell, and Operating a Motor Vehicle while under Suspension. Clavell was released on a $10,000.00 bond and is to appear in Danielson Superior Court on 10/16/2019.
