An $80,000 state grant is going to enable the Plainfield Police department to soon be outfitted with body cameras. The cameras are expected to be online and operational by September 1st. The grant is also going to cover the cost of video and other equipment necessary. Plainfield will be receiving 20 cameras, so all 18 police officers will be wearing them and there will be 2 spares on hand.
Police officers will be wearing the cameras full time, they will be attached to their shirt fronts, and will be activated upon any contact with the public. The cameras are digital and all recorded images will be downloaded to the police department servers at the conclusion of the police officers shift.
