Plainfield Police: 19 Year Old Stopped for Seatbelt Violation Arrested for Marijuana Possession

On August 30, 2019 an Officer of the Plainfield Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop, in the area of Payson Street and Church Street, Plainfield, after observing a passenger not wearing seat belt in the front seat. The vehicle was a 2004 Chevy Malibu. The Officer approached the operator who was later identified as 19 year old Jon Tyler Roberts and immediately smelled a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Roberts also had large knife located between the seat and the center console. Roberts was asked to exit the vehicle and he complied.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers located multiple clear baggies containing marijuana, a scale and other drug paraphernalia. Roberts was taken into custody and his juvenile passenger was issued an Infraction for Failure to wear Seat Belt in the front seat.
Roberts was processed and charged with Possession of more than ½ Ounce of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana with intent to sell, Possession of Marijuana within 1,500 feet from a School or Daycare and Weapons in Vehicle. Roberts was later released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and is schedule to appear at the Danielson Superior Court on 9/16/2019.
