PLAINFIELD, CT First Selectman Debate to be held at Plainfield High School (PHS) on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 7:30 PM. Doors open at 7:00 PM. ALL are welcome, and it is a FREE and Kid Friendly Event. Organized by an out of state Plainfield taxpayer, Melissa Ferman, who currently lives in Georgia, and has dedicated many hours of her time to put this event together “For the People, By the People”; Sponsored by “The Concerned Taxpayers of the Town of Plainfield, CT”; Moderated by The Honorable, Maureen C. Mooney, JD (Moosup native, former New Hampshire State Representative, Dean of School at the Founders Academy Public Charter School in Merrimack, NH). All four candidates have been invited to participate. Write-In Candidate, Kevin Cunningham, former Plainfield First Selectman; Republican Endorsed Candidate, Vickie Meyer, current Board of Finance Chair; and Independent Endorsed Candidate, Daniel Reale, Paralegal, have all accepted invitations to debate one another at the PHS Debate. Cathy Tendrich, Plainfield Daycare Owner and current Board of Finance Member, however, initially declined invitation, but has stated to this writer that she is reconsidering her decision at this time. Ms. Tendrich will be seeking answers regarding the PHS debate from Ms. Ferman. Initially, Ms. Tendrich stated openly on social media that she is looking forward to attending two other debates instead of the one “For the People, By the People” at PHS. One debate she looks forward to is expected to be hosted by the Norwich Bulletin where Write-In Candidate, Kevin Cunningham will not be allowed to participate as it is their policy to not allow Write-In Candidates to participate in debates they organize. The second debate Ms. Tendrich will attend is where all four candidates will be able to participate however the format is in a private setting where Plainfield residents will not be in attendance. This Plainfield High School Debate is unique in the fact that it is run by the taxpayers of Plainfield, not outside organizations. Ms. Ferman has stated numerous times on social media that she wants all candidates to participate in this debate “For the People, By the People” as it is for the benefit of all Plainfield citizens. Ms. Ferman hopes that Ms. Tendrich will reconsider and attend this First Selectman Debate as well as the others she will attend. There are many issues facing Plainfield in the coming fiscal year, to include but not limited to 5 million dollars less in state funding, and an educational district with a C+ rating (www.niche.com/k12/plainfield-memorial-school-plainfield-ct/). The taxpayers have a lot of questions for the upcoming First Selectman at the debate “For the People, By the People” and would like to hear from all four candidates in an open forum debate about how they will address the many issues facing them should they win the election.
