Plainfield DWI Results in Overturned Vehicle

On July 22, 2016 at approximately 9:53 P.M., members of the Plainfield Police Department responded to the area of All Hallows Rd., Waurgean, CT, after dispatch received a report of a vehicle overturned off the roadway.
Upon arriving on scene police observed a white Ford Ranger overturned on its operator side in a field. The vehicle was unoccupied. Through investigation it was determined that the vehicle was registered to Matthew Gallant, 21, of Depot Rd., Wauregan, CT.
Officers made contact with Gallant at his residence who was highly intoxicated. Gallant became uncooperative with Officers who then attempted to place him under arrest. Gallant then attacked an Officer striking him, a struggle then occurred and Gallant was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Plainfield Police Department to be processed. Both Gallant and the Officer sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention.
Once back at the Plainfield Police Department Gallant refused chemical testing and was subsequently charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs, Interfering with a Police Investigation, and Assault on a Police Officer. Gallant was released on a bond and is scheduled to appear at the Danielson Superior Court, G.A. 11, on 08/01/2016 at 8:30 A.M.
