Plainfield residents are set to go to their polling places on Monday to vote whether or not to accept the proposed 2016-17 general government and Board of Education budgets. The budgets combined represent a 0.69 mill-rate increase. Budgets which require a spending plan with an increase be voted on and accepted.
The general government and education budgets represent a 4% and 2% increases respectively. The general government budget increase is driven mostly by increased salaries and medical insurance, while the bulk of the education budget stems from salary increases, and a new hire kindergarten teacher for Moosup Elementary School, which will enable all-day kindergarten classes which are now presently held at Shepard Hill Elementary.
Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. for Districts 1 and 5 at the Plainfield Town Hall, 8 Community Ave.; District 2 will vote at the Central Village Fire Station, 53 Black Hill Road; District 3, Moosup Fire Station, 37 S. Main St.; and District 4, Atwood Hose Fire Station, 24 Wauregan Road.
