Norwich Schools superintendent Abby Doliver, released the school budget for the 2016-17 school year. The budget of $79.3 million includes a 4.53 percent jump from last year, and accounts for contracted benefits payments and tuition increases.
The proposed budget has taken into account a 2.5 percent tuition hike to Norwich Free Academy next year, as well as fixed costs. The costs for 1,251 students at NFA is $11,872 per pupil and will increase to $12,066 for the 2016-17 school year.
The costs which cannot be eliminated or negotiated are the costs of heat, insurance and the electricity needed to run the schools.
While the $79.3 million figure is not the final figure because changes are still being made as final costs on transportation and insurance have not been received, the $79.3 million figure has been presented to the board’s budget expenditure committee.
