MILITARY VETERANS OFFERED EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE BY DEPT. OF LABOR AT STAND DOWN 2019 ON SEPT. 20

ROCKY HILL – Military veterans will be offered workforce assistance, including employment and training guidance, from the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Veteran Services staff during Stand Down 2019 on Sept. 20 at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs main campus.

More than 30 government agencies and social service organizations will take part in Stand Down 2019, to be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 287 West Street, Rocky Hill campus.

There are more than 200,000 veterans in this state who are eligible to participate.  They will be able to receive education, workforce, legal and motor vehicle assistance, housing referrals, state and VA benefits information, medical, dental and mental health screenings. Free clothing will also be distributed.

“Serving those who defended our country and our freedom is a high priority for Connecticut Department of Labor, and we are honored to take part in Stand Down 2019,” State Labor Commissioner Kurt Westby said. “The annual Stand Down event provides excellent opportunities to expand the agency’s outreach efforts by offering  job search and career-related services. to the men and women who have given so much for their country.”

Veterans needing transportation to Stand Down 2019 will be able to obtain free bus service provided by the Connecticut Department of Transportation from a number of locations around the state.

Bus stops will be in Bridgeport, Bristol, Danbury, Danielson/Killingly, Derby, East Hartford, Ellington, Enfield, Hartford, Manchester, Middletown, Milford, Naugatuck, New Britain, New Haven, New London, Newington, Norwalk, Norwich, Orange, Stamford, Suffield, Terryville/Plymouth, Torrington, Vernon/Rockville, Wallingford, Waterbury, Westport, West Haven and Willimantic.
