The new UCFS Jewett City facility is now one step closer to reality. Approval was received last week from the town’s Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Conservation Commission to proceed with their new facility to be located at 226 E. Main Street. The approved plan for a parking area and site improvements will eliminate 1,656 square feet of regulated wetlands.
Ground was broken on the site of the new health center over a year ago and since that time, architects have been hired, applications submitted and $3.9 million in state bonds have been approved.
Initially a 12,000 square foot building will be built, but plans are already in place to expand the facility to 16,000 sqft. A grant was recently awarded to add dental services to the site, and will be initially set up at the existing UCFS facility at 70 Main St.
The building of the new facility is hoped to be started this winter. No completion dates are known at this time, until construction begins.
