Richard Grabowski has been the tax collector for the for 24 Years. Grabowski has decided that it was time to leave his position and retire as of June 30, 2016. Grabowski is an elected official and his term doesn’t expire until November of 2107. According to town statutes, if an elected official leaves their post before their term ends, the Board of Selectmen will appoint a replacement. A motion was made by 2nd Selectman Steve Merchant and was seconded by 3rd Selectman, Martin McKinney. The same sentiment was also echoed by the 1st Selectman, Kevin Skulczyck.
Coming in to replace Grabowski will be Borough Tax Collector, Leona Sharkey. Leona has served on as the Borough Tax Collector for over 10 years handing the duties without an assistant. She will finish out the term that Grabowski had been elected for. Assistant Griswold Tax Collector Kathy Levy will remain on as Sharkey’s assistant.
