On Thursday December 19, 2019, Eastern District Major Crime Squad out of Troop E Montville was contacted by the NYC Department of Racially and Ethnically Motivated Extremism Unit regarding a North Stonington man making a threatening comment on the internet. The man was identified as 31 year old Trevor Spring who posted a comment online about killing the African American juvenile in Harlem who is associated with the murder of the college student in Harlem. After further investigation it was determined that Spring made the comment via his cell phone in the Mystic area. It was also discovered that Spring doesn’t have any weapons nor does he have any access to them. Spring stated that he didn’t have any intention to go to NY and harm anyone. Spring did admit to making comments out of anger that the college student died over “pocket change” and other online comments regarding her death.
A warrant was issued charging Spring with 2nd degree threatening. Spring turned himself in to Troop E on Friday December 20, 2019 where he was processed and released on a $5,000 bond. Spring has a court date in New London on January 3, 2020 to answer to the charge.
