Vehicle rolls on Moosup Pond Rd claims one life and sends another to the hospital

On 01/01/2017 at approximately 11:20 A.M. members of the Plainfield Police Department, Atwood Hose Fire Department, and American Legion responded to a one car motor vehicle accident with entrapment on Moosup Pond Road in the area of Juniper Lane in the Moosup Village of Plainfield. It was reported the vehicle had overturned and was in a brook off the roadway.
Upon arrival officers located a 2015 Mercedes GLA250 overturned in the Apple Tree Meadow Brook off the North shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle was almost completely submerged and two occupants were trapped inside. Officers along with Fire Personnel worked to extricate the occupants by partially overturning the vehicle to gain access through the passenger side door.
The passenger, later identified as Lisa Caruso (W/F DOB 04/11/1968) of 12 Snake Meadow Hill Road of Moosup, Connecticut, was unresponsive and transported to Plainfield Backus Emergency Room. She was pronounced dead at 12:11 PM. The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Michael Caruso (DOB 05/19/1959) husband to Lisa, was then extricated and transported to William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by Plainfield Police Department. The Plainfield Police Department is asking anyone with any information pertaining to this accident to contact the Plainfield Police Department. It should be noted that the Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Team was requested and responded to assist in the investigation.
