Montville Fatal Fire

The Montville Fire Marshal’s Office, the Montville Fire Department, State Troopers from Troop E-Montville, and State Police Detectives from the Fire & Explosion Investigative Unit (FEIU) are investigating a fatal structure fire in Montville.
On March 8, 2016 at approximately 3:40 p.m., firefighters from the Montville Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire located at 95 Depot Road in Montville.
Upon arrival the Montville Fire Department found a small shed structure fully engulfed in flames. The shed was not attached to the residence, but located behind the residence. No damage was reported to the residence.
Firefighters were able to knock down the structure fire and extinguish the flames. After the fire was suppressed a search of the shed was conducted by firefighters. The search revealed one victim deceased in the shed. No other injuries were reported.
The Montville Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. State Police Detectives from the FEIU also responded to the scene and will assist with the investigation and determine cause and origin of the fire.
The Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner (OCME) will assist in the investigation and conduct a post mortem examination to determine cause and manner of death, and to positively identify the deceased.
The identity of the deceased is pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing.
