On December 20, 2018, at approximately 11:20 PM, Troop D Troopers were dispatched to the Chucky’s located at #439 Hartford Pike in Dayville. It was reported that a red Volvo had intentionally rammed two occupied vehicles in the parking lot of Chucky’s before fleeing the scene. As State Troopers were responding to Chucky‘s, the same red Volvo entered the Troop D parking lot and intentionally smashed into a civilian dispatcher’s vehicle that was parked in the back of the barracks. The Troop D deskman ran out to the back parking lot and attempted to arrest the driver who actively resisted arrest. The driver was identified as 36 year old Nicholas Palazzi. When Troopers escorted Palazzi into the barracks they suspected he was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Troopers conducted the standardized field sobriety tests on Palazzi and subsequently determined that he had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Once Palazzi was processed, he was placed in a holding cell in the Troop D cell block. Palazzi begin doing inappropriate things including rubbing his genital area on the cell bars and then urinated all over the floor of the Troop D cell block. Palazzi was ultimately charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, assault, breach of peace, multiple counts of criminal mischief in the first degree, interfering with a police officer, reckless endangerment in the first degree and assault on a police officer. Palazzi was held on bond and appeared in Danielson Superior Court on December 21, 2018.
