Man Air Lifted to Hartford Hospital After Machete Attack

On Wednesday July 24, 2019, at about 10:30 PM, Connecticut State Police were dispatched a residence in North Windham for a reported disturbance. Troopers located the victim outside at the address, 60 James Dr, suffering from a machete wound to his left arm and also to the chest. Eastern District Major Crime Detectives were dispatched to the scene to assume the investigation. 52 year old Doran Sumway (pictured), who resides at the aforementioned address, admitted to Troopers that he and the victim had a confrontation in which Shumway struck the victim with his machete in the arm and the chest. The victim’s injury was life threatening and was air lifted by Life Star to Hartford Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Shumway was arrested and taken to Troop K in Colchester and was charged with Criminal Attempt to commit murder, 1st Degree Assault, 1st Degree threatening, , Reckless Endangerment, and Disorderly Conduct. Shumway was processed without incident and held at Troop K on a $1,000,000 bond. Shumway was due in court on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 10:00 AM to answer to the charges. This is an ongoing investigation, being conducted by the Eastern District Major Crime Squad Detectives.
