LOCAL LIBRARIES SHARE $6.5K FROM JEWETT CITY SAVINGS BANK FOUNDATION

JEWETT CITY, CONNECTICUT, February 28, 2018… Four local libraries will share $6,500 in
grants awarded recently by the Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation.
“Libraries are the heart of the communities they serve,” said Kevin Merchant, president and CEO of
Jewett City Savings Bank. “They really are hometown treasures, and we are pleased to support them
on behalf of our own hometown customers, friends, and neighbors.”
Slater Library in Jewett City received a special $3,000 grant to replace the carpeting in the children’s
section and an annual support grant of $1,000. In Moosup, Aldrich Free Public Library was awarded
$1,000 by the Foundation for a curbside collection box to make the return of books and videos
easier for senior citizens and those with handicaps.
Sterling Public Library was awarded $1,000 to provide educational and social programs to library
patrons, with an emphasis on children and families. Friends of the Janet Carlson Calvert Library in
North Franklin received $500 from the Foundation to support the 10th anniversary of the
Connecticut Authors Trail program in New London, Windham, and Tolland counties.
