The political journey started for Kevin Skulczyck when he first ran for 1st Selectman for Griswold against then incumbent Phil Anthony. Skulczyck would win that race by the slimmest of margins. With his increasing popularity as First Selectman and being very much in the public eye, he was re-elected for a 2nd term running unopposed and endorsed by both the republican and democratic parties.
When Paul Brycki decided not to run for a 2nd term as 45th district rep due to retirement and health issues, Skulczyck decided to take the next step in his political career by running for the seat. This race, there was an opponent in Selectman Tracey Hanson of Voluntown, a well spoken democrat with a solid political career ahead of her. Skulczyck defeated Hanson last November to become the next 45th district rep for Griswold, Plainfield, Voluntown, Sterling, and Lisbon.
Today, January 4th 2017, Kevin Skulczyck was sworn in Hartford to start his post. What’s next for Skulczyck? Will this be the highest he will go in the political arena? Although cliche’ to say, time will tell. Knowing Kevin on a somewhat personal level, I would say no, there’s more to this story and I think we are only starting to scratch the surface. It’s good to see local people, from our town, going to Hartford as lawmakers for you and for me. Steve Mikutel, Paul Brycki, and now Kevin Skulczyck.
Griswold should be proud of our exports.
