K-9 Vail Sniffs Out Illegal Drugs During Normal Traffic Stop

On February 27, 2020 at approximately 11:06 P.M., the Plainfield Police Department arrested 38 year old John Burton, of Thompson.

While conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Green Hollow Road in Central Village, CT, an Officer observed a black Chevy Cruze traveling northbound. The Officer observed that the vehicle failed to have its registration plate illuminated.

A motor vehicle stop was conducted on Green Hollow Road. The operator was identified as 33 year old Joshua Hoenig, of Danielson. The passengers were identified as Suzanne Mitchell, 35, of Danielson and Burton.

An investigation was conducted where Hoenig was found to have a suspended operator’s license. During the investigation the Officer became suspicious that there were illegal drugs inside of the vehicle.

The Officer deployed his K-9 Vail, a male yellow Labrador trained in narcotics detection. K-9 Vail was used to sniff the vehicle where K-9 Vail alerted to the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted where drug paraphernalia and crack cocaine was located and determined to be Burtons.

Burton was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Narcotics and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Burton was released on 5,000.00 bond and is scheduled to appear at the Danielson Superior Court, G.A. 11, on March 9, 2020 at 8:30 A.M.

Hoenig was issued a Misdemeanor Summons for Failure to Illuminate Registration Plate and Operating Under Suspension. Hoenig was released on a written promise to appear and is scheduled to appear at the Danielson Superior Court, G.A. 11, on March 9, 2020 at 8:30 A.M.
