Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation awards $6.5K in education, youth services grants

JEWETT CITY, CONNECTICUT, February 21, 2019… Six recent Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation grants totaling $6,500 will benefit groups and organizations focused on education and youth services. The grants were announced today by Kevin Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank.

The Connecticut Storytelling Center in New London received a $1,000 grant to support a literacy program for preschoolers at Canterbury Elementary School. Also in New London, Safe Futures was awarded $1,000 for its healthy relationships violence-prevention program at Griswold High and Alternative Schools. Griswold Public Schools will apply its $2,000 grant to a September 11 Memorial.

Jewett City Boy Scout Troop 20 will use its $1,000 Foundation grant toward camping equipment and repair of a storage trailer, while Northeast Opportunities for Wellness in Putnam will apply its $1,000 Foundation award to the purchase of teaching aids for nutrition programs. Also, Brooklyn Parks and Recreation Department will provide children with recreational activities with its $500 Foundation award.

The grants in support of education and youth services projects were among 68 awards totaling over $78,000 made by the Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation in 2018.
