Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation Awards $30.9K in Emergency Services Grants

JEWETT CITY, CONNECTICUT, January 14, 2020… The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation has awarded $30,900 to more than 20 providers of emergency services throughout Jewett City Savings Bank’s market area. A total of 34 grants were awarded to support annual drives and fund a variety of special projects.
“Emergency service providers put their lives on the line to keep us and our properties safe. The Foundation is committed to providing financial support to help them acquire the equipment and services they need to carry out their important work,” said Kevin Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank.
Special Projects A total of $10,000 was allocated to fund special projects for 10 emergency services providers. A $2,500 grant was awarded to the Plainfield Police Department to purchase and train a new canine unit. Recipients of $1,000 grants included Canterbury Volunteer Fire Company for the purchase of new radios, batteries, and other accessories to improve on-scene communications; East Brooklyn Fire Department for the purchase of an automatic electronic defibrillator; Griswold Volunteer Fire Company for the purchase and installation of a digital sign in front of the station; Jewett City Fire Department for a Blitzfire for the ladder truck; Plainfield Fire District for the purchase of a portable gas-powered generator; and Sterling Volunteer Fire Company for the purchase of a fire hose and nozzle.
Receiving $500 grants were Atwood Hose Fire Company for a collapsible, large diameter hose drain attachment; Central Village Fire Company for new dive gear; and Preston City Volunteer Fire Department for a new portable generator.
Annual Support Grants totaling $20,900 for annual support were awarded to 24 departments/companies. Canterbury Volunteer Fire Department received an annual support grant of $1,100. In addition, $1,000 annual support grants were made to: Attawaugan Fire Department; Dayville Fire Company; East Brooklyn Fire Department; East Killingly Fire Department; Griswold Volunteer Fire Company; Jewett City Fire Department; Killingly/Brooklyn Ambulance Corp; Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department; Moosup Fire Department; Mortlake Fire Co. & Ambulance Service in Brooklyn; Oneco Fire Company; Plainfield Fire Company No.1; Sterling Volunteer Fire Company; Voluntown Volunteer Fire Company No. 1; and Williamsville Fire Engine Company in Rogers.
Recipients of annual support grants in amounts between $500 – $700 included American Legion Ambulance in Moosup; Atwood Hose Fire Company; Central Village Fire Company; Danielson Fire Department; Lisbon Ambulance Service; Poquetanuck Fire Department EMS; Preston City Volunteer Fire Department; and South Killingly Fire Department.
During this most recent round of funding, the Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation awarded 66 grants totaling $77,000 to 56 local organizations. With these most recent donations the Foundation has donated more than $900,000 in grants since it was established in 2003.
