Homicide Fugitive From Justice Recovered Along With Stolen Car in Connecticut

On Monday, January 29, 2018, Detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime Squad (EDMCS) were contacted by investigators from Aiken County, South Carolina Sheriff’s office for assistance in locating a wanted person for a double homicide in Aiken, SC. Troop E Montville had been notified on January 27, 2018 of the same request and broadcast suspect and vehicle information to surrounding troops and local police departments. On January 29 Sgt. Forrest Ruddy received additional information that the suspect, Jeremie D. Tobey was at Windham Hospital in Willimantic. EDMCS Detectives, Troop C, and Willimantic Police responded to the hospital and located Tobey who was about to be discharged. Tobey was taken into custody without incident and charged with being a fugitive from justice. South Carolina Investigators were advised. A stolen car in his flight to Connecticut was also recovered and seized in Willimantic. Tobey was processed and held of $1,000,000 bond. He was to be presented in Danielson Superior Court January 30, 2018.
