Homeless Man Wanted For Sex Offender Charges Arrested in Moosup

On 07/15/16 at approximately 6:13 AM members of the Plainfield Police Department were dispatched to the Moosup area of Plainfield for the report of a suspicious person. Upon officer’s arrival they located a male matching the description now located at the Cumberland Farms which was in close proximity to the original call. Upon speaking with the male party he gave a fake name to officers. Upon further investigation the male was identified as Rene Martel (03/28/76) who is currently homeless. It was learned that Martel had an outstanding warrant in Connecticut for Failure to Appear with a $100,000 court set bond. It was also learned that Martel was wanted out of the state of Rhode Island for failure to register as a sex offender for multiple counts. Martel was taken into custody for Failure to Appear 2nd Degree, Criminal Impersonation, and as a Fugitive from Justice. Martel was held on a combined $200,000 bond and will be presented at the Danielson Superior Court on 07/15/16.
