On January 8, 2019 at approximately 1918 hrs members of the
Groton Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Orion Ave
in Groton for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival officers met with a
female who advised that her husband, the subject, was within the
residence, that he was armed with a handgun and had discharged the
handgun within the home. Officers removed the female and 2 young
children to a safe location, set up a perimeter and evacuated area
residents with assistance from several mutual aid police departments. It
had been determined that the subject was alone in the residence with a
firearm. Officers called for assistance from the Connecticut State
Police, Emergency Services Unit – Tactical Team. After arrival of the
Tactical Team numerous attempts were made to contact the subject via
cell phone and other means. During the time that officers were on scene
they observed movement within the residence.
At this time the incident remains active, but the scope is limited to the
immediate area. Law Enforcement personnel from Groton, State Police
with assistance from the FBI and NCIS continue to work to resolve this
matter.
Although there is no immediate threat to people in the area that are still
in their homes, out of an abundance of caution, we ask that area
residents remain in their homes.
