Griswold Wolverines Top Killingly Redmen, Advance in Playoffs

The Griswold Wolverines took on the Killingly Redmen Thursday night. A semi-final bid was on the line. Griswold’s Max Gregory scored ten points in the first quarter. The Wolverines led Killingly 24 to 14 after the first quarter. Killingly’s Gavin Turner scored ten points in the second quarter. His team trailed Griswold 47 to 30 at halftime.
In the third quarter, six of Griswold’s players scored. Max Gregory scored eight points. Fellow senior guard, Mason Rubino, scored five points in the quarter. The Wolverines began to pull away from the Redmen, leading 71 to 49. The Redmen closed the gap late in the fourth quarter. Gavin Turner led the charge with eight points in the quarter. Killingly cut the Wolverines’ lead to single digits. The effort wasn’t enough for the Redman. Griswold defeated Killingly 91 to 78. The 91 points were a season-high total for Griswold. Max Gregory led the team in scoring, with 31 points. Pharoah Curtis scored 19 points; Nick Gileau 16 points, and Mason Rubino had 11 points.
Griswold advances to the semi-finals in the ECC tournament. The Wolverines will face the Woodstock Academy Centaurs on Saturday at Waterford, starting at noon.
