Griswold Superintendent Names New GMS Assistant Principal

Griswold Public Schools is thrilled to announce that Mr. Chris Vamvakides has been selected as the Assistant Principal of Griswold Middle School. Mr. Vamvakides started his career at LEARN. For the past 8 years, Mr. Vamvakides has been employed by New London Public Schools as a Teacher of Social Studies, a Director of Summer School, and most recently as a part-time Athletic Director. Mr. Vamvakides has earned a reputation for maintaining high expectations for all learners, for supporting students and families, and for being a compassionate leader who always keeps the best interests of students in mind. Stonington Public Schools Assistant Principal Deanna Brucoli notes that Mr. Vamvakides builds and maintains strong relationships with students and adult stakeholders and “does not speak or act without great care and thought.” New London Public Schools Administrator Timothy Enos emphasizes that Mr. Vamvakides lives the “growth mindset” and works alongside teachers to focus on student development and achievement. Teachers, parents, administrators, and BOE members involved with committee interviews were impressed with Mr. Vamvakides’s emphasis on collaborative leadership and always keeping the focus on students. Mr. Vamvakides holds a B.A. in History from the University of Connecticut; an M.S. in Education from the University of New Haven; and a 6th year certificate in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut University. Mr. Vamvakides, his wife Jennifer, and their family reside in New London.
