The position of Superintendent of Schools in Griswold may soon be filled. The position was vacated by outgoing Superintendent Paul Smith, who decided to leave Griswold Public Schools for the vacant Superintendent position in East Hampton, Ct. Since then, the post has been filled by Director of Curriculum, Susan Rourke on an interim basis. As an interim, many residents in town were hoping the Board would appoint Mrs. Rourke to the position permanently. However, Mrs. Rourke did not submit for consideration.
Approximately 10 candidates did submit their names for the position, in which 3 were called in for a face to face interview. Since then, Board Members have invited one candidate to do a walk through of the school campus. There has been no announcement as of yet if an offer has been extended. The Board of Education hopes to fill the position by July 1st so whomever he or she may be can assist in the process of hiring a High School Principal which is available with the retirement resignation of Dr. Mark Frizzell.
