Connecticut State officials have narrowed their choice for the proposed firearms training facility to two towns, Griswold and Sprague. The final sites under consideration are Lee Road in Griswold and Westminster Road in Sprague.
Both sites have been chosen due to their relative distances from nearby residential areas. The Lee Road area in Griswold is surrounded by the Pachaug State Forest, and the Sprague location provides susbtantial forest land buffering the area.
The training facility will be used to train state police in the use of firearms with simulators in both indoor and outdoor shooting ranges.
Whether the final choice is either Griswold or Sprague, once the final approval is made, the project can move forward without resident or town approval because the properties being considered are privately owned.
