The Griswold Boys Basketball team played their last regular game of the season on Monday spoiling senior night at PHS defeating Plainfield, 62-43. CJ Mattson was 6 for 8 from behind the arc and at one time, sank 5 in a row. Mattson finished with 23 points and led all scorers. Connor Abrams was the scoring star for Plainfield with 22 (scoring the first 8 points of the game) in the loss.
Next up for both teams is the ECC Championships where these 2 teams could see each other once again with Griswold getting a #2 seed, and Plainfield with a #6 seed. Griswold will play at home on Thursday against the winner of the “play in” game against #7 Wheeler and #10 Tourtellotte. Plainfield draws #3 Montville. If both Griswold and Plainfield win their opening match ups, they will see each other again on Saturday at Waterford High School in the Semi Finals.
Top seeded St. Bernards will square off against the winner of the 8/9 match up between Putnam and Windham. Although Griswold, who lost twice to St. Bernards in the regular season and would love another crack at them and Senior Center Nathaniel Avery, don’t count out Windham. Windham defeated St. B’s earlier back on January 24th, 69-55. Don’t let Windham’s 4-16 record fool you. They could prove to be a spoiler for a lot of teams during this tournament. During SNSN’s broadcast of Griswold vs Windham on January 31, Color Commentator and Griswold Coach Ted Koziol stated they are the best 1-11 (record at the time) you will ever see. Griswold barely eked out the win, 62-59.
SNSN Radio will air the Quarterfinal game between Griswold and either Wheeler or Tourtellotte. Tip off is 6:00 PM
