The night before as well as Thanksgiving morning in Griswold and the Borough of Jewett City is left open for the annual fundraising events from the Griswold Booster Club. The Griswold Athletics Booster Club’s mission is to enhance and promote athletic opportinities for all athletes in the Griswold Public School District.
As always, the night before Thanksgiving, the Booster’s hold their annual Pasta Dinner at the Jacques Cartier (French) Club. The dinner was held from 5:30-7:30 and is advertised and promoted as a night that you DO NOT want to cook since most do quite a bit of cooking on Thanksgiving Day. This year, the cost of the dinner was $8. Shells, sauce, meatballs, salad, bread and butter, cake, and soft drinks were all incuded for the price.
Roughly 12 hours after the Pasta diner fundraiser, the annual Turkey Dip took place where area residents would jump into Ashland Lake behind the French Club after soliciting donations from friends, relatives, and neighbors. The Booster Club awards prizes for 1st and 2nd place for the people with the highest amount of donations. This year, 1st place went to Konnor Gleason who gets a $500 Mastercard who raised $1345. Konnor was also the winner for 2015. In 2nd was Ayden Rourke who raised $435. 2nd Place gets a $100 Mastercard cash card. There were also some first time “dippers” this year including GHS Princial Erin Palonen and Wolverine Radio’s mid day host, Phil Michel. The total profilt from both events over the holiday was $2300.
