Griswold Board of Education Fills Vacant Seat

In July, the Griswold Board of Education lost a member when Jennifer Norman resigned her seat at a regular Board meeting.  The seat has been vacant until today, August 10, 2020.

The existing board had a special meeting at 4:30 today as well to discuss a new member as 2 candidates had come forward with interest in filling the vacated seat by Mrs. Norman.

There was discussion from board members during the regular meeting which started at 6 PM discussing the candidates. The candidates that expressed interest in joining the board which were also received nominations were Dr. Theresa Madonna who had already served on the board.  The other, Jaimee Eaton.

Board Members Marty Osga and Attorney Stuart Norman spoke on behalf of Dr. Madonna with Osga stating “Her resume’ stands out, she has the experience, and has already served on the board.”  No other members spoke on the candidates and/or gave recommendations.

Board Chairman Mary Beth Malin closed the discussion part of the nomination motion and went to a vote.  The vote is as follows:

Stuart Norman – Madonna

Marty Osga – Madonna

Joyce Rice – Eaton

Shannon Webster – Eaton

Yvonne Palasky – Eaton

Mary Beth Malin – Eaton

Eaton receives the majority of the vote and will take the seat vacated by Jennifer Norman who was at the meeting as well

Here’s some information on your new board member, Jaimee O’Neill Eaton.  She has been a town employee working as the Assistant Town Clerk, a position in which she holds certification under Town Clerk Valerie Pudvah.  Eaton is also the Town Hall Union President which also encompasses the Senior Center and the Youth Center.  She has been with her husband Eric for a total of 19 years. Jaimee is also a graduate of Norwich Free Academy  They have 4 children, 2 girls and 2 boys ranging from 8 – 23 years of age.
