On 8/23/16 at approximately 1:30am, the Plainfield Police Department received a report of a suspicious person in the area of Collelo Ave. in the Moosup section of Plainfield. Upon officers’ arrival, a male was seen running from the area. Contact was made with CSP-Troop E requesting assistance in locating the subject using a canine.
Prior to the arrival of the Canine Unit, a Plainfield Police Officer observed the subject exit the woods along North Main St. and run towards Brunswick Ave. A foot chase ensued and the subject was chased on Brunswick Ave. and detained near its intersection with Cottage St. where officers were waiting for him.
During the investigation a neighborhood canvas was done and it was determined that an unlocked vehicle on Collelo Ave. had been entered and items including an electronic device and gift cards had been taken valued at $1,000.00. The subject, Martin Olivera, 37, of 592 N. Main St. Moosup, CT, was placed under arrest, taken into custody and charged with Larceny 4th Degree. He was released on $1,000.00 Non-Surety Bond with an appearance date of 9/6/16 in Danielson Superior Court.
With the assistance of the canine unit the stolen items were located in a nearby yard. The Plainfield Police Department would like to take this time to again remind residents to lock their vehicles to avoid easy entry by thieves.
