Sterling Man Arrested After Foot Chase With Police

On April 5, 2020 at approximately 4:24 A.M., members of the Plainfield Police Department arrested Sonny Barber, 30, of Sterling, Connecticut.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Brookside Drive in Plainfield, Connecticut, after receiving a complaint of a camp fire in the woods and what sounded like an “explosion” along with yelling and screaming.

Upon arriving on scene Officers conducted a foot patrol of the abandoned Interoyal Mill property located at 20 Reservoir Street in Plainfield, which was the area the complainant reported hearing the noise disturbance. Officers observed smoke in the distance.

Officers observed a male later identified as Barber in the distance laying in the tree line attempting to hide. Barber fled on foot as Officers approached him which was no factor, after an approximate 100 yard foot chase Barber was taken into custody after a brief struggle. A camp fire was later found extinguished in the woods nearby Barbers locations.

Barber continued to resist Officers and was transported to the Plainfield Police Department where he continued to be uncooperative, making numerous threats and racial slurs towards Officers throughout the booking process.

Barber was processed and charged with Simple Trespass, Interfering with an Officer, Breach of Peace 2nd Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Less than 1/2 Ounce of Marijuana. Barber was released on a $5000.00 bond and is scheduled to appear the Danielson Superior Court, G.A 11, on June 1, 2020 at 9:00 A.M.
