Female Prisoner Attempts Escape Just Hours After Incarceration at York Correctional

On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, an inmate at the York Correctional Institution in East Lyme, attempted to escape the facility. Caitlin Rancalli, 24, last address in Suffield CT.
The prisoner gained access to the outside of the housing units to the prisoner yard where she attempted to scale the fence. Guards saw Rancalli attempting to exit the yard by going over the fence and quickly detained her without further incident. Rancalli was processed by Troop E and then brought back to York and released back to Department of Corrections staff.
Rancalli was charged with 1st degree Attempted Escape from a Correctional Institution and placed on $25,000 bond where she will answer to these charges at New London Superior Court.
Rancalli was originally arrested just the day before for possession of marijuana as well as possession of a dangerous weapon by the Southington Police Department.
