Fatal Crash Victim’s Identity Released

On Saturday May 4, 2019 at approximately 2:40 a.m. members of the Plainfield Police Department and the Moosup Fire Department responded to a one car crash in the area of 28 Sterling Road in the Moosup Village of Plainfield.
Upon arrival the vehicle was engulfed in flames and was subsequently extinguished by the Moosup Fire Department. Once extinguished, a deceased occupant was located in the driver’s seat.
Due to the fire and severity of the motor vehicle crash, the occupant of the vehicle was unidentifiable. The State of Connecticut Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted and removed the deceased from the scene. The initial investigation determined that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Sterling Road at a high rate of speed. The vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway and struck a large tree head-on. The vehicle immediately caught fire and was later extinguished by the Moosup Fire Department.
On May 9, 2019 the Plainfield Police Department with the assistance of the State of Connecticut Medical Examiner’s Office were able to identify the operator of the vehicle as 21 year old Shane Currier of Danielson, Connecticut. Notifications have been made and the crash will remain under investigation.
