Eversource is Ready for the First Snowstorm of the Year

BERLIN, Conn. – With a powerful storm heading up the East Coast expected to bring snow, high winds and more bitter cold temperatures to Connecticut Thursday, Eversource is ready to address any storm-related power outages or damage to the electric system. The company has line workers, tree crews and support staff ready to respond and is encouraging customers to also prepare for the possibility of outages.

        “Given the extremely cold temperatures we’ve been experiencing and with more bitter cold in the forecast, it’s crucial for customers to take precautions and prepare for whatever weather this storm may bring,” said Eversource Senior Vice President of Emergency Preparedness Peter Clarke. “It’s important to point out that driving conditions are predicted to be difficult – so traveling to damage locations will be challenging and hazard-level winds could temporarily prevent workers from going up in bucket trucks to restore power.”

        Eversource recommends customers assemble or restock a storm kit with essential items before a storm strikes. Stock up on water, non-perishable food and pet food, and make sure to have adequate medical supplies and prescriptions for each family member and any pets. The company also suggests customers keep all wireless communication devices fully-charged in case of a power outage. The company encourages customers to take extra precautions in light of frigid temperatures. The company reminds customers to always stay clear of downed wires and to report them immediately to 9-1-1. Customers who signed up for the company’s new, two-way texting feature can send a text to report an outage and receive outage updates as they happen.
