Ellington Fatal Crash Arrests

Gruelle Coles


On December 20, 2015 at approximately 12:31 am, State Police Troop C received the report of a single car collision on West Road in Ellington. The collision resulted in one fatality. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Nathan Coles. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

After a thorough investigation, on March 3,  2016 at 5:53 pm, trooper Christopher Melanson served an arrest warrant from Rockville Superior Court on Nathan a Coles, 24, at his address in Ellington. Coles was transported to a Troop C for processing without incident. Coless was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol / drugs, failure to maintain establish lane, manslaughter second degree with a motor vehicle while under the influence, false statement second degree, and tampering with a witness. Cold was held on a $350,000 court set cash bond for presentment at Rockville Superior Court on March 4,  2016.

On March 3rd 2016 at approximately 7 pm, Trooper Cloukey located Samantha Gruelle, 25, at her residence in Vernon and subsequently placed her under arrest for an active warrant related to the investigation. Gruelle was transported to Troop C where she was processed in accordance with state police procedure. Gruelle was charged with false statement second degree, assigned a $5,000 surety bond and released with a court date of March 14, 2016 at Rockville Superior Court.
