A new communication was sent out yesterday from the State Department of Education in regards to teachers and the wearing of face masks. At first it was stated that teachers could remove their masks if they remained socially distant, 6 feet or more. Essentially, teachers were allowed to removed their mask.

With the latest update, entitled Addendum 11, that has changed. It now states, teachers must wear a mask at all times while in the school building “unless they are providing instruction for special education or other therapeutic situations where the instructor’s mouth needs to be seen.

Teachers are not permitted anymore to remove their masks when providing classroom instruction from a distance of 6 feet or more. Masks can only be removed for mandatory mask breaks which are 10 minutes long or during lunch breaks. They may also take off their masks if they are providing instruction outside and remaining at a 6 foot distance from others.
