Elderly Man Gets Hit By Car After Falling In Road to Avoid Oncoming Traffic

Wednesday morning at approximately 11:31 A.M. members of the Plainfield Police Department, Plainfield Fire Department and American Legion Ambulance responded to a Car vs Pedestrian accident, in the area of 177 Canterbury Road.
Leo Bourque, age 89, of Plainfield, CT attempted to cross the roadway in the area of 177 Canterbury Road when he fell to the ground and was subsequently struck by a vehicle. Bourque stated that he did not see the vehicle and that he was in the middle of the road when he realized that a vehicle was traveling his way.
Cara Tingley, age 45, of Danielson, CT was operating her 2011 Grey Ford Fusion traveling eastbound on Canterbury Road when Bourque crossed the road in front of her vehicle. According to Tingley and a witness at the scene, Bourque began to walk faster, in an attempt to avoid being struck by the vehicle. Bourque fell to the ground and the vehicle struck him while Tingley was attempting to swerve and stop.
Bourque was transported by American Legion Ambulance to Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT with suspected minor injuries. Tingley was provided with medical services at the scene and she refused transport to the Hospital.
This accident is still under investigation.
